Army Veteran John Valls recently visited with George Washington Middle School students to talk about his service as an infantry man during WW II. During the war, Valls fought in 30 battles throughout Europe, and was also one of the first soldiers to liberate the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Shortly thereafter, he was assigned to be part of the invasion on Japan up to the time of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Mr. Valls also exhibited some photos and books that he has published, and revealed that he enjoys building model airplanes. The visit concluded with students thanking Valls with cards and letters of appreciation. Mr. Valls will soon travel to Washington D.C., where he and fellow WWII veterans will be honored for their service to our country.
