The Trautmann Middle School (TMS), Honors Band advanced to the State level band competition by way of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Honor Band competition. The process began at the Region Level, and then proceeded to the Area and State level. The competition is open to all middle school bands in the State of Texas that wish to submit a recording of their band’s performance. On May 19, 2017, Head Band Director Jorge Garcia submitted a recording of their three UIL pieces to the TMEA Honor Band competition. The recordings that were submitted were from an April 21st 2017 competition performance at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas, Texas. The TMS Honors Band earned Superior Ratings and Best in Class out of 26 bands in attendance.
The Trautmann Middle School Honors Band recording was then judged at the Region Level in Laredo on June 10, 2017, and received unanimous first place votes from a panel of five judges and advanced to the Area Level during a competition on June 23, 2017 in Castroville. This is where the band placed first again and the recording advanced to the State Level.
Out of all the 3C middle schools in the State of Texas, the TMS Honors Band competed along with 16 other groups on July 20, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. From this final state competition, the TMS Honors Band was ranked 8th best band in the State of Texas. The TMS Honors Band is under the direction of Head Band Director Jorge L. Garcia and Assistant Band Director Cristian E. Lira.
