Students from the UISD Cherish Center wanted to pitch in to help victims of hurricane Harvey. Their drive started immediately in the aftermath of the hurricane, which left thousands of families without basic provisions. Students asked their friends and families for donations of non-perishable food items, water, and personal hygiene and baby care supplies. Coordinator Laura V. Salinas said that the students watched television coverage of the hurricane, and teachers further explained the impact of the storm on people. “They really wanted to do their part, and I’m proud of what they accomplished”, said Salinas.
